ADVOCACY AND CAMPAIGNS COORDINATOR
COALITION OF LATIN AMERICANS IN THE UK (CLAUK)
3 DAYS per week
£29,950 per year pro-rata
Contract until 31st October 2016 (possibilities of 1 month extension)
CLAUK was formed in the aftermath of the launch of the No Longer Invisible report, which highlights the need to address a number of issues to counter the disadvantage facing Latin American Migrants in London. CLAUK currently comprises 14 organisations and has been successfully working for 3.5 years in the areas of promoting formal recognition of the Latin American community, access to labour rights and access to health services.
The Advocacy and Campaign Coordinator will be responsible for co-ordinating, supporting, developing and structuring the work of the Coalition, to whom the Coordinator will be answerable in terms of the substance of the work. The Advocacy & Campaigns Coordinator will be proactive in the coordination of the Coalition’s work, bringing together expertise and knowledge from CLAUK’s members and a further range of sources to work towards its goals. The post-holder will be employed and line managed by the Latin American Women’s Rights Service (LAWRS).
The successful candidate will have: campaigning experience, experience of representation to external stakeholders; experience of working with informal networks or coalitions; fundraising experience, excellent communications skills; knowledge on local authority decision making processes in the UK; excellent advocacy and negotiation skills; thorough understanding of the needs of Latin Americans in the UK and a commitment to human rights and equal opportunities. Fluency in Spanish and English is essential and fluency in Portuguese will be an advantage.
